The Englishman attracted interest from multiple franchises after the star all-rounder played a important role in the T20 World Cup winning campaign earlier this year in Australia. RCB, RR and LSG began the initial rounds of raising the paddles during the auction before Chennai Super Kings (CSK) joined the fray and eventually landed Stokes for INR 16.25 crore. Interestingly, he became the joint third most expensive player bought in the auction along with South Africa’s Chris Morris.

Stokes scored an unbeaten 52 runs to guide the Three Lions to triumph in the summit clash of T20 WC against Pakistan at the iconic MCG in the marquee event. The right-arm medium pacer also scalped six wickets at a stunning economy of 6.79 in the tournament.

Joining the CSK side, Stokes adds lot of fire power coming down the middle order alongside the likes of Ravindra Jadeja. The Chennai franchise will surely look to add threat with the use of Stokes in the side in the forthcoming season.
