The in-form Chennai Super Kings will square off against the Rajasthan Royals in the upcoming 37th game of the Indian Premier League (IPL), at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Thursday, April 26. When the two sides last met, in the 17th game of the tournament, the Royals defeated the four-time champions in front of their home crowd, the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

But ever since that defeat, things have gone really well for CSK and the Men in Yellow have not lost a single game so far. CSK took on the Royal Challengers Bangalore, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and the Kolkata Knight Riders, and emerged victorious in all three encounters. The MS Dhoni-led side would be hoping to keep the winning momentum going and would aim to maintain the No.1 position in the points table.

Here's Chennai Super Kings’ probable playing XI against Rajasthan Royals for the 37th game of IPL 2023:

Openers: Ruturaj Gaikwad, Devon Conway

Ruturaj Gaikwad started the season on a high note but has not managed to get to a good score in the recent few games. In the past few games, he has failed to convert his knock into a big score and ended up giving away his wicket after forming a decent opening partnership. Against RR in the previous game, he was dismissed for a low score and would hope to perform better this time.

Devon Conway has been in terrific form of late. He is among the leading run-scorers for CSK, and has notched up half-centuries on the trot in the recent four games. Even in the game against RR, he emerged as CSK’s top run scorer, and hence would be expected to perform similar heroics. Given his current form, Conway would be the batter to lookout for in the upcoming clash.

Middle-order: Ajinkya Rahane, Ambati Rayudu, Shivam Dube

Ajinkya Rahane has shown a different side of himself in the Indian Premier League this year. After missing out on a couple of games in the initial phase, CSK roped him in for the clash against Mumbai Indians, and since then, the veteran has only impressed everyone. In the most recent game against KKR, his former team, Rahane looked in great touch and emerged as the player of the match for his knock. He already had accumulated 209 runs in five matches and would hope to continue batting in similar manner.

Ambati Rayudu has managed to score only 24 runs in the last three games that he has played. Dubbed one of the finest batters to play the spin bowlers, the experience middle-order batters has been dismissed by the spinners quite a few times this year. In the game against RR this season, Rayudu was dismissed on the second ball that he faced, off Yuzvendra Chahal’s delivery. Hence, he will look to tackle the spinners.

Shivam Dube has shown immense improvement in his performances this season. He has walked out to bat twice in the past three games and has notched up half-centuries in both games. After finding his mojo during the clash against RCB, he put up a show against KKR in the recently concluded game and got to the 50-run mark on the 20th delivery that he faced.

All-rounders: Moeen Ali, Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni (c & wk)

CSK’s all-rounders have all been in great form. Moeen Ali is being deployed as the sixth bowling option and is not used as the spinner on a regular basis. But the Englishman has proved to be a vital cog for CSK. He has chipped in with runs whenever the team’s in trouble, and has picked up seven wickets in five innings so far.

Jadeja has not managed to fire with the bat, but has been really good with the ball. In five innings of seven matches that he has played in so far this season, he has scored 57 runs only. But he was handed the ball in all of CSK’s cames, and apart from a few poor outings, he has been on his toes, having picked up 10 wickets at a decent economy.

MS Dhoni has been his vintage self this season. Known as the mastermind of the game, Dhoni knows how to control the game from behind the stumps. He has shown confidence in the players and has backed them well, which has led CSK to the top spot in the IPL points table. He surely can be trusted to get the crucial runs in the death overs and pull CSK out from troublesome situations, if any.

Bowlers: Matheesha Pathirana, Tushar Deshpande, Maheesh Theekshana

Matheesha Pathirana started off decently but has improved over time and secured his place in the team’s combination. He has worked immensely on his line and lengths, which is clearly reflected through his performances and Dhoni would expect him to nail his yorkers so as to shape him as a wicket-taking bowler.

Tushar Deshpande had a forgettable outing in CSK’s campaign opener, but the captain and the team backed him, put him in tough situations, and he learnt from his mistakes. He is currently the highest wicket-taker for CSK this year, and also the joint-third-highest wicket-taker this season. He would aim to wreak havoc with the new ball and prove his worth.

Maheesh Theekshana is yet to find his mojo. He joined the camp late, but immediately found his place in the XI. He has been leaking plenty of runs but will be backed and will be expected to be and do well, just like the others in the bowling unit have. CSK will bring in pacer Akash Singh in the bowling lineup if they defend the total, so as to get the extra bowling option. Akash has been doing really well and has not gone wicketless in the past four games that CSK have played.

Ruturaj Gaikwad, Devon Conway, Ajinkya Rahane, Moeen Ali, Ambati Rayudu, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni (c & wk), Matheesha Pathirana, Tushar Deshpande, Maheesh Theekshana
