After registering a sensational win in the first game, Lucknow Super Giants will now be going up against four-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the sixth match of the tournament at the M A Chidambaram Stadium on Monday, April 3.
It could be interesting to see how the KL Rahul-led side would fare against Chennai, who are coming off a loss. MS Dhoni’s side would be desperate to register their first victory of the season, whereas Lucknow would look to keep their momentum going.
Here's Lucknow Super Giants’ predicted XI against Chennai Super Kings
Openers: KL Rahul (c), Kyle Mayers
Skipper KL Rahul was unable to perform at his best in Lucknow’s first game of the season. The ace India batter’s poor run of form continues as he only managed to score eight runs against Delhi Capitals before he was sent back to the pavilion by Chetan Sakariya. The skipper would be keen on improving upon his performances as the game against Chennai approaches.
Kyle Mayers was the star of Lucknow’s first game of the season. The 30-year-old scored a massive 73 runs in just 38 deliveries to mount pressure on Delhi. Mayers' knock was integral for his side as they posted 193 runs on the board. The team will hope he can also have a similar showing against Chennai.
Middle Order: Nicholas Pooran (wk), Ayush Badoni
Nicholas Pooran was one of the top scorers on the team in Lucknow’s first game. He scored 36 in 21 balls and was an integral part of the team in the first innings. The wicketkeeper-batter will also look to further build upon his innings in the upcoming matches.
Ayush Badoni had a short outing in the first game of the IPL 2023; he looked to be in the flow as he accumulated 18 runs to his name with two sixes, but he was sent back to the pavilion soon after and was substituted following his dismissal. The 23-year-old will look to have more impact in the upcoming matches.
All-rounders: Deepak Hooda, Krunal Pandya, Marcus Stoinis
The all-rounders of Lucknow Super Giants failed to make a massive impact in the first game as all of them failed to score big in the first innings. Deepak Hooda played a subpar inning where he scored 17 in 18 deliveries before he was dismissed by Kuldeep Yadav.
Krunal Pandya looked good in the first game; he played an unbeaten knock of 15 in 13 deliveries. He will be keen on having a more significant impact in the match where they take on the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings, which promises to be thrilling.
Like Hooda and Pandya, Marcus Stoinis failed to impress in Lucknow’s first match. The Australian all-rounder only scored 12 runs before Khaleel Ahmed sent him back to the pavilion. The all-rounders of the side will have to be at their best if they are looking to overcome Chennai Super Kings.
Bowlers: Avesh Khan, Mark Wood, Ravi Bishnoi, Jaydev Unadkat
The bowling line-up of Lucknow Super Giants was at the top of its game in the tournament's first match. After posting 193 runs on the board, the responsibility fell on the shoulders of the bowlers, and they were successful in carrying it out.
Avesh Khan bowled four overs, conceding 29 runs, and managed to take two wickets. He dismissed David Warner and Aman Khan to help his side achieve a phenomenal win. Avesh will also look to play a similar role in the next game.
Mark Wood was sensational for Lucknow in the first game; the 33-year-old English pacer took a fifer to dismantle Delhi’s batting unit. Furthermore, he only conceded 14 runs in the four overs he bowled and dismissed the likes of Prithvi Shaw, Mitchell Marsh, Sarfaraz Khan, Axar Patel, and Chetan Sakariya. If he continues his run, he could be a key player for his side at the IPL 2023.
Ravi Bishnoi also had a big hand in the victory, as he took two wickets and conceded 31 runs in the four overs he bowled. Jaydev Unadkat was the only bowler who was unable to take wickets, but he will be keen on changing that in the upcoming game and taking his first wicket of the IPL 2023.
