Delhi Capitals slumped to yet another defeat to join Mumbai Indians at the bottom half of the table in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. On Thursday Rishabh Pant and his side lost to Rajasthan Royals by 12 runs despite some late fight from South African Tristan Stubbs.

Rishabh Pant won the toss and chose to bowl first. They had the Royals struggling at 36/3 at one stage. Riyan Parag and Ravichandran Ashwin 54 runs for the 4th wicket with the veteran Indian bowler scoring 29. The top scorer for the Royals was Riyan Parag who smashed an unbeaten 84 off 45 balls which included 25 runs off Anrich Nortje’s last over.

Needing 173 runs to win DC saw Nandre Burger struck twice in an over to dismiss Mitchell Marsh and Ricky Bhui. David Warner and Rishabh Pant combined to add 67 runs for the third wicket. Sandeep Sharma pulled off a blinder to dismiss Warner for 49 and Pant soon followed him for 28. Tristan Stubbs tried his best with the bat as he smashed 44 not out but Royals bowlers held their nerves and won the game.

Here are the three 3 changes Delhi Capitals should make before their next match against CSK

3. Need to replace Sumit Kumar with Lalit Yadav

Delhi Capitals are missing a trick by not playing Lalit Yadav in their playing XI during IPL 2024. The 27-year-old has the ability to strike the ball big as shown during the IPL 2022 game against MI. Lalit Yadav is also a decent off-spinner and has picked ten wickets from his 25 matches.

Sumit Kumar who made his IPL debut against PBKS didn’t have a great game. The fact that Delhi Capitals batting unit looked a bit thin against RR is enough reason to give Lalit Yadav a try. With the next game set to be against a formidable CSK side, Delhi will need to make their batting unit a bit longer.

2. Time to bring Prithvi Shaw back into the team and push Mitchell Marsh to number three

The team management of Delhi Capitals have tried to replicate the Australian formula for success. Making Mitchell Marsh open with David Warner is a good idea but the team needs a regular opener. With Ricky Bhui failing to perform in the chances given to him, it is time for Prithvi Shaw to be given a look in.

The young opener has been in decent nick with the bat for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy recently. His inconsistency has been widely spoken about but Prithvi Shaw is a genuine match winner. The right-handed batter has an X-factor about him just like Virender Sehwag did. On his day when Shaw is in form, there is no better batter to watch than the diminutive batter from Mumbai.

1. Bringing an extra spinner in place of Mukesh Kumar

Fast bowler Mukesh Kumar saw his woeful form with the ball continue on Thursday against Rajasthan Royals. After not playing the first game of the season, the 30-year-old came in and looked good at certain points in the game. Riyan Parag and Dhruv Jurel though went after Mukesh Kumar and made his bowling figures look ugly.

This makes the case for someone like Praveen Dubey to make his way into the playing Xi in the next game. Since the match is set to be played in Vizag which is a track that helps the spinners, Dubey could be a good choice. The 30-year-old is a very good leg-spinner with years of domestic experience. He is also more than handy with the bat as he has shown over the years for Karnataka.
