IPL 2024: 3 changes Royal Challengers Bengaluru should make to get back to winning ways
Rajasthan Royals won their fourth straight game of the season against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
In the 19th match of the Indian Premier League 2024, Rajasthan Royals hosted the Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Sawai Mansingh in Jaipur. The home team chose to field first and the Bengaluru batters were on the go from the first delivery. Thanks to a glorious hundred from the modern batting maestro Virat Kohli, the away side was able to post a competitive score of 183 after their 20 overs.
The hosts lost the young opener, Yashasvi Jaiswal in the first over which made matters worse. Skipper Sanju Samson along with Jos Buttler then took things into their own hands as they led the chase forward. Buttler's fine hundred in the final over of the chase helped his franchise win by six wickets. Let's take a look at what changes the Royal Challengers Bengaluru should make ahead of their next game against the Mumbai Indians.
Here are the three things that Royal Challengers Bengaluru should make ahead of their next game: -
3. Utilise Akash Deep's services
The pacer who made his India debut in Tests during the England series earlier in 2024 has not been able to start for his franchise in the Indian Premier League. Till now, he has not been able to make a single appearance in the Indian Premier League 2024. There is no indication as to why the pacer is not being included in the starting XI.
Considering how bad the pace bowling has been this season, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru management might have to look at Akash Deep in the upcoming matches. They can maybe try and use him as an Impact Player in some of the games. His line and length was accurate during the Test series and might want to use his experience from that for the franchise as well.
2. Try Will Jacks instead of Maxwell
The ‘Big Show’ Glenn Maxwell has not been able to live up to the expectations of the team management as well as the fans. His most impressive performance till now has come with the ball as he claimed two wickets in the Punjab Kings clash. With the bat, it has been a dismal run of form as he has scored 32 runs in the five matches he has played.
The Royal Challengers Bengaluru team management can look to use Will Jacks as their fourth overseas player in the playing XI in their upcoming encounter. The England batter is known for his power-hitting prowess and can use the aggressive approach for the franchise and score runs at a brisk pace. This is one option that the management should take sooner rather than later and can help them yield results as well.
1. Virat Kohli's strike rate vs the team's SR
There is always talk about Virat Kohli eating up deliveries and not playing at a good strike rate. But this is a different version of the India batter as he looks to attack in the powerplay and then smash only the loose balls during the middle overs. He tends to bat for a long time and help his side to a good score.
This approach of his has been useful for him but it also requires the other batters to bat with an aggressive approach. The other batters of the franchise have not been able to bat with a higher strike rate and that has propelled the franchise to post only fighting totals on the scoreboard. The only game they won was while chasing against the Punjab Kings and it saw a great innings from Kohli which gave them the foundation for the chase.
