IPL 2024: Flop XI of third week
Some eminent foreign names have made it to the list of non-performing players of the tournament's third week.
The third week of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) witnessed some sensational performances from eminent players such as Jos Buttler, Rashid Khan, Tim David, Romario Shepherd, Tristan Stubbs, Marcus Stoinis, and Nicholas Pooran.
On one side, these players had a remarkable week while a few names couldn’t live upto the expectations and handed disappointment to their sides. Discussing more about some names, let’s talk about 11 non-performing players of the week.
Here is the flop XI of the third week
1. Rachin Ravindra
Rachin Ravindra flopped with his bat for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The stylish New Zealand batter could amass only 12 (9) and 15 (8) with his bat in two appearances.
2. David Warner (C)
David Warner is known for his fierce batting style but his performance hasn’t been consistent, thus far. In the third week, Delhi Capitals (DC) got a 29-run hammering from Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium, while following 235 runs and the southpaw could score only 10 runs off eight deliveries.
3. Glenn Maxwell
Glenn Maxwell is going through one of the toughest phases of his IPL career as he couldn’t reach double digits in both games played in the third week. Against Rajasthan Royals (RR), he got dismissed after scoring only one off three. In the must-win game against Mumbai at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, he accumulated the third duck of the tournament.
4. Daryl Mitchell
Daryl Mitchell was the third-costliest player in the 2024 IPL, getting a lucrative contract of INR 14 crore from CSK. However, his batting numbers reveal that he has failed to do his job efficiently. In Chennai’s last two games, he looked ordinary with his bat. Against SRH, he came at number six and hit only 13 off 11. In his next game against KKR, he was sent at number three and could accumulate 25 off 19.
5. Cameron Green
Cameron Green has put up a disappointing show with both bat and ball in the tournament. In his team’s six-wicket loss to RR in Jaipur, the Australia all-rounder bowled 3.1 overs and conceded 27 runs without getting any wickets.
6. Heinrich Klaasen (WK)
Heinrich Klaasen will look to forget his previous week to serve the Sunrisers confidently in upcoming games. The dynamic wicketkeeper-batter could score only 10 runs off 11 balls against Chennai while in his side’s intriguing two-run win against Punjab Kings (PBKS), he failed to tackle the Harshal Patel challenge and could score only nine runs.
7. Andre Russell
Andre Russell looked underwhelming with both bat and ball against the Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. As a batter, he scored only 10 runs while in the second innings, he got no wickets and leaked eight runs in his only over.
8. Mitchell Starc
Mitchell Starc looked completely out of colour against CSK in Chennai. Spearheading KKR’s pace attack, he failed to be effective, giving away 29 runs in three overs. He also went back to the pavilion wicketless.
9. Spencer Johnson
Spencer Johnson failed to create an impact with the ball against LSG and RR in the previous week. Against Lucknow, he recorded 0/32 figures in his four overs, however, despite his ineffective performance, the GT team management didn’t drop him against RR. This time, his bowling figures got worse as he failed to damage the opponents and gave away 37 runs.
10. Jhye Richardson
Australia pacer Jhye Richardson played his debut game for DC against MI at the Wankhede Stadium. Against the Men in Blue, the 27-year-old bowled four overs and splurged 40 runs. The Aussie also failed to get any wickets.
11. Anrich Nortje
Anrich Nortje took two wickets against MI in his four-over spell but also gave away 65 runs. The paceman’s horrendous bowling display went against DC as MI posted an enormous score of 234 runs on the board.
