IPL 2025: 5 Capped and 1 uncapped player Gujarat Titans might retain ahead of the mega-auction
Gujarat finished eighth on the points table in IPL 2024.
Things have changed quite a lot in the Gujarat Titans (GT) camp. After winning the title in their debut season and finishing runners-up in the second, captain Hardik Pandya decided to switch back to Mumbai Indians, which hurt the franchise significantly as they finished eighth on the points table in 2024, accumulating 12 points in 14 matches. After which, there are reports of head coach Ashish Nehra parting ways with the franchise and the owners are likely to sell their stakes as well.
Multiple changes are expected from Gujarat next season and the process for the same has already started. It’s unclear if everything will materialize before IPL 2025 but that won’t hurt the team from building a strong squad and once again competing for the coveted trophy. The core team management has already started working for the same as they attended BCCI’s meetings regarding the next season last month.
Meanwhile, the apex council is due to announce the number of retentions ahead of the mega-auction and whether or not RTM cards will be back. It has kept things at a standstill but Gujarat must have eyed three players that they won’t let go. Who can possibly be those three players?
Here are the five capped and 1 uncapped player Gujarat Titans might retain ahead of the mega-auction:
6. Shahrukh Khan
The Chennai-born played a couple of fine knocks in the middle-order for the Titans last season and could be a great choice as an uncapped player. He is also another batter who has a lot of experience as a finisher in domestic cricket. Shahrukh Khan might not have lived up to his potential in the IPL as he boasts a paltry average of 19.75 from 38 innings. However, his strike rate of 141.43 gives a glimpse of his big-hitting abilities.
Fans who do not follow domestic cricket might wonder why there is so much hype around Shahrukh because of his inconsistent performances in the IPL over the years. However, the 29-year-old has worked on his flaws and stamped his authority during the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) earlier this year as he finished with 225 runs from seven innings at a strike rate of 192.93.
In IPL 2024, Shahrukh had a strike rate of 169.33, his highest in the tournament. He batted at No. 4 in the last few games for the Titans last season and fared decently. The right-handed batter could do wonders from that position next season if the management backs him and allows him to play his natural game.
