The last couple of years have seen a surge in the fast bowling gems India has produced. The need for Indian pace bowlers in the Indian Premier League and former Indian captain Virat Kohli’s love for pace have led to a rise in the talented pacers in the country. The depth of India’s pace arsenal was evident when India conquered Australia in the 2020-21 series. However, the promising pacers need to be spotted and groomed for the future as the Bumrahs, the Shamis, and the Kumars would not be there forever. Mukesh Choudhary Mukesh Choudhary is a fine left-arm pacer representing Maharashtra at the first-class level. The 26-year-old made his first-class debut in the 2017-18 season in Ranji Trophy against Railways. Since then, he has featured in 13 games for his Ranji side and picked up 33 wickets. The Rajasthan-born pacer grabbed the limelight when he was selected by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in this year’s IPL auction. Deepak Chahar’s unfortunate injury meant an opportunity for the left-arm pacer. He stuttered in the first few games but gradually picked up steam. Mukesh might not have the express pace but can trouble the batsman with the swing. He has played in 13 games for CSK and has taken 16 wickets at an economy of 9.32. He has been a handful in the powerplays for the three-time IPL champions and has been a work-in-progress material at the death. 2. Mohsin Khan Mohsin Khan is a left-arm speedster from Uttar Pradesh. He grabbed everyone's attention when he took 13 wickets from eight games in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2018. He rattled batters with his pace and this fetched him an IPL contract for the Mumbai Indians in 2018. Mohsin couldn't break into the star-studded Mumbai side but was given a new lease of life when Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) picked him in this year’s auction. The left-armer had a memorable season in the IPL picking 14 wickets in nine matches with an outstanding economy of 5.97. The 24-year-old was exceptional in the powerplay and gradually the LSG management used him in different phases of the game. A left-arm pacer bowling at the speed of over 140 kmph and having the ability to bowl at different phases of the game, Mohsin is definitely one for the future. 3. Kuldeep Sen Kuldeep Sen is a right-arm pacer known for his ability to bowl deliveries consistently at over 145 kmph. He made his first-class debut for Madhya Pradesh in the 2018-19 season of the Ranji Trophy and has made 16 first-class appearances for his domestic side picking up 44 wickets at an average of 30.5. The decent showing in the domestic circuit earned him an IPL gig in the 2022 auction. He was bought by Rajasthan Royals for INR 20 lakh. The speedster featured in seven games for RR and picked up eight wickets. He showed his worth on the big stage troubling batters with his pace. Kuldeep has brute pace but has been a bit low on consistency. He is an amazing prospect for the future and needs to be worked upon. 4. Simarjeet Singh Simarjeet Singh is a promising right-arm pacer who plays for the Delhi domestic side. The 24-year-old who made his Ranji debut in 2018 is known for clocking 140kph consistently. The right-arm quick has been impressive in the last couple of years and has now become a regular member of the Delhi domestic team. The Delhi-born in his 11 first-class appearances for Delhi has taken 37 wickets at an average of 29.43. Simarjeet was associated with Delhi Capitals and the Indian National team as the net bowler where he was lauded for his skiddy pace. His major career highlight was when he represented Chennai Super Kings in the 2022 IPL season. He had an impressive outing in six matches he played for the marquee franchise. In those outings, he picked four wickets at an economy of 7.67. The former Indian captain MS Dhoni hailed the young pacer for his showing and he can be one of the bowlers to make it big in the future. 5. Yash Dayal Yash Dayal is one of the exciting left-arm quicks whose name is doing rounds in the Indian circuit. The youngster after making his domestic debut for Uttar Pradesh in 2018 made rapid strides and became a vital cog of his team. He has taken 56 wickets in 16 matches in first-class cricket and has 23 wickets in 13 list-A matches. His decent showing made him one of the sought-after youngsters in the IPL auction. Gujrat Titans bagged the left-arm pacer for a whopping 3.2 crores. He repaid the faith of the franchise with his impressive performances. In the nine matches played for reigning IPL champions, he took 11 wickets. Dayal who has the knack of clocking 140 kmph was effective in the powerplay and the death overs. In a short period, his stocks have seen quite a rise and Dayal has made ample noise to command attention. 6. Arzan Nagwasalla Arzan Nagwasalla is a left-arm pacer hailing from Gujarat. After making his first-class debut in 2018, the 24-year-old had a steep rise in the domestic circuit. In the 21 first-class matches, he has taken 81 wickets at an average of 24. Also, he has been impeccable in List A taking 39 wickets in 20 matches. Nagwaswalla has been a giant in the longest format of the game and his numbers are proof of that. The youngster created a lot of buzz when he was selected in the India squad for the World Test Championship final. The left-arm fast bowler who took an insane 41 wickets in the 2019-20 season of the Ranji Trophy, has been knocking on the door of the National side with his gritty performances. He has the potential to make it big at the grandest stage. 7. Avesh Khan Avesh Khan is a skiddy seam bowler who possesses a lot of variations up his sleeves. Known for clocking high speeds, the right-arm quick has been a constant figure in the T20 circuit of late. Despite making his IPL debut in 2017, Avesh hogged the limelight in 2021 when he represented Delhi Capitals. In the 2021 season, the Indore-born took 24 wickets in the 16 matches he played for the franchise. He maintained his steam in the following year for the new franchise LSG where he was the leader of the pace attack and took 18 wickets in 13 matches. He is a typical modern-day fast bowler having off-cutter, leg-cutters, and slower balls. He can bowl in all the phases of the game and this rare skillset earned him an International call-up this year. He has made 15 appearances for the Men in Blue since his debut and picked up 13 wickets. He is currently bidding for a place in the upcoming T20 World Cup and is playing the ongoing Asia Cup. 8. Umran Malik Umran Malik is the fastest bowler in the Indian circuit at the moment. He is known for his express pace and has a rare skill set of consistently clocking over 150 kmph. Hailing from Kashmir, the speedster is considered the next big thing in Indian cricket. Umran caught everyone’s attention when he made his IPL debut for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the latter stages of the 2021 season. He rattled the opposition with his sheer pace and acknowledged his ability SRH retained him for the next season. He had an outstanding 2022 where he took 22 wickets in 14 matches and was adjudged the “Emerging Player of the Season” for his sensational performance. His dream IPL season earned him an international call. Though he could not make a mark on the international stage, he is the most exciting young bowler in the present generation and needs to look after. 9. Arshdeep Singh Arshdeep Singh is a left-arm pacer from Punjab. He was a member of the U19 squad that lifted the World Cup in 2019. However, he rose to prominence when he took eight wickets against Rajasthan in the CK Nayudu Trophy. His consistency in the domestic circuit earned him an IPL gig for the Kings XI Punjab (Now Punjab Kings) in 2019. The left-arm pacer’s stocks gradually grew in the biggest T20 leagues. The 2021 season was the youngster's breakthrough season where he took 18 wickets in 12 games. Arshdeep is renowned for his execution of yorkers and this has earned him a lot of praise from former cricketers and experts. Arshdeep broke into the national team and has shown a lot of promise on the international stage. In the eight matches played for the Men in Blue, the 23-year-old has taken 12 wickets at an economy of 7.3. He is certainly one of the talented pacers doing rounds in the Indian team and will most likely make it to India's squad for T20 World Cup. 10. Prasidh Krishna Prasidh Krishna broke into the scene when he took an astonishing number of 17 wickets in just 8 games in the 2017-18 edition of the Vijay Hazare trophy. The tall right fast bowler has had an upward curve ever since in the domestic circuit. Prasidh was in the headlines when the Kolkata Knight Riders picked him in the 2018 season. He took 11 wickets in the seven matches played in his debut season. He had a gradual rise in his stocks but inconsistency plagued him. However, he had a decent 2021 season and this earned him an international call-up. The 26-year-old has had considerable success in the ODIs where he picked 25 wickets in 14 matches. Prasidh is seen as an Ishant Sharma mould as a tall pacer having the ability to extract bounce from the surface and is considered a future star, especially in the Test arena.
