3 cricketers who might face omission from India's squad under KL Rahul's captaincy
Here's the list of three cricketers who could be axed post Team India's unsuccessful World Cup Campaign at home.
India's World Cup campaign came to an end in a most heartbreaking manner no Indian fan imagined. Team India's dream run ended when Champions Australia thrashed them in the final to clinch their record sixth title.
With the World Cup now concluded, India may see a transition phase in their squad. The 2027 Cricket World Cup is a long-way assignment. Four years down the line, many of the senior members would possibly miss out as young blood might take over if groomed. So, this opens up a perfect opportunity for the team management to build the squad with new and young talents.
With the talks going around about KL Rahul taking over the captaincy from Rohit Sharma, this may see a make-shift in the game plan as well. If he is handed over the role, he would want to decorate the squad with some new faces. This means they have to phase out some set of players to make the space.
3. Ravichandran Ashwin
India's ace spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is probably the least favourite player to make the cut in the Indian team's white-ball fixtures after the World Cup. He was drafted into the team out of the blue just before the World Cup. He came in as an injury replacement to Axar Patel and played only the opening match against Australia.
Once Hardik Pandya got injured, Ashwin's chance to get back into the XI decreased. His presence in the XI didn't strike the right chord. With the off-spinner being an irregular feature in the squad makes it pretty clear for him to make any comeback in India's white-ball squad. Interestingly, he was not in the scheme of things post the 2017 Champions Trophy. But the 2021 World T20 Cup saw his return to the team.
Though he performed to his potential, he couldn't bring any trophy home. The way modern cricket is evolving it is near impossible for Ashwin to stay in the squad. With his age and performance, the T20 World Cup in 2024 looks like a far-fetched dream. Probably, the champion bowler has played his last white ball international game for India at his home ground at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
