2. India versus Australia in the World Cup 2015 semi-final
Australia won their fifth title in the World Cup 2015 under Michael Clarke in their own backyard. During their marvellous journey, they beat the MS Dhoni-led India by 95 runs in the second semi-final at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). Dhoni and Co. were unbeaten in the tournament before the knockout game against the Men in Yellow.
On the big day, luck favoured the hosts as their skipper Clarke won the toss and elected to bat first. Following the early dismissal of David Warner, Aaron Finch and Steven Smith held their nerve and produced spunky knocks. Smith went on to score a scintillating ton and the opener played a superb innings of 81.
Mitchell Johnson made a remarkable cameo with his bat at number nine, scoring an unbeaten 27 runs off just nine balls which helped the Aussies put up 328 runs on the board. Confronting Australia’s disciplined bowling attack, India got bundled out on 233. Virat Kohli, who was one of the main batters in India’s line-up, was dismissed on one after facing 13 deliveries. James Faulkner picked up three wickets and became the highest wicket-taker for the Aussies in the game.
