England captain Jos Buttler announced his decision to relinquish England's white-ball captaincy, following a string of shambolic outings for the team under his leadership. Champions Trophy's last league stage game of Group B between England and South Africa will be the last official outing of Buttler as English skipper, before the seasoned campaigner calls it quits.

As a result, there have been questions looming over the players who can replace Jos Buttler as captain of the England cricket team in both T20Is and One-Day Internationals. There are a few strong contenders who can reshape the future of England cricket in tandem with their coach Brendon McCullum.

Here are three players who could replace Jos Buttler in T20Is and ODIs:

3. Ben Stokes

Star cricketer Ben Stokes is currently the captain for the Test team of England. He was ruled out of the Champions Trophy 2025 following a hamstring injury. The player has been marred with injuries throughout his career, but his captaincy prowess certainly makes him the potential option to take over the duties in the white-ball set-up as well. Moreover, his partnership with coach Brendon McCullum revolutionized the way England played Test cricket, which also is an added advantage if the board thinks it that way.
