3 players who can get Pakistan’s ODI captaincy
After Babar’s resignation, these three names are favourites to receive the ODI captaincy baton.
2. Shaheen Afridi
Shaheen Afridi took 18 wickets in nine matches at an economy of 5.93 in Pakistan’s dismal World Cup campaign, but he was criticised for failing to deliver at crunch moments, especially the powerplay. Despite his lackluster performance, the speedster has got the T20I captaincy mantle for Pakistan.
The PCB will expect the star bowler to dominate as a leader in the next few months so that the Green Army succeeds in lifting the distinguished T20 World Cup trophy in 2024. Shaheen has proven his captaincy skills in PSL, winning two consecutive titles for Lahore Qalandars in 2022 and 2023.
Talking about his overall captaincy record in the league, the 23-year-old has a victory percentage of 70, with 17 wins and seven losses in 25 matches. If Shaheen justifies his role as a skipper in the upcoming days, the PCB will not hesitate in appointing him as the skipper of the ODI team as well.
