During a virtual press conference before the start of the first game of the five-match Test series against England in 2021, a reporter questioned Virat Kohli “ "Virat you had a very good outing in the last England tour as a batsman. But the expectations rise whenever you tour somewhere. So are you going to do something different for better performance in this series?" (translated from Hindi to English). To the question, the then-Indian skipper bluntly answered “Nahi (No)”.

When India clashed against England for a five-match Test series on the latter’s turf, Kohli was at his best and amassed heaps of runs for his side. He piled on 593 runs in five games at an average of 59.30. The ace batter was adjudged the Player of the series for his incredible effort.

However, the veteran batter was not able to replicate the same in the 2021-22 England tour and had a middling campaign. He only accumulated 249 runs in five matches at an average of 27.66. The five-match Test series ended in a stalemate.
