5 Players who deserved but didn't get picked in India's squad for the England Test series

India has announced its squad for the first two matches of the coveted India-England five-match Test Series. Several players have been picked up for the series for the first time while there have been some names who were expecting their names but have been omitted from the list despite registering good performances.The list is out just for the first two matches and some players have not been performing well with the likes of Gill and Iyer in it, who might get dropped for the remaining three matches based on their performance. Here's a list of five players who deserved a place in the squad but did not get picked by the selectors: 5. Sarfaraz Khan Sarfaraz Khan Ranji Trophy 2024. (Photo Source: Twitter/@imRohit_SN) Although Sarfaraz Khan did find a place in the Indian squad for the second Test, it has just been because KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja have been injured and ruled out for the match, after the unavailability of Virat Kohli. So there has been a shortage of pool strength as several key names have been missing from the squad now. Even after being picked up in the squad, he was not selected in the Playing XI as Rajat Paitdar was chosen over him making his debut. It is worth mentioning that the Mumbai-based batter has worked very hard in the domestic circuit in recent years and deserves to find a place. With the uncertainties lying ahead, there are chances that he might or might not get picked. 4. Cheteshwar Pujara Cheteshwar Pujara (Photo Source: Twitter) Cheteshwar Pujara has been a regular in the team’s setup for years now in this format of the game. He was dropped from the team in the last series to South Africa. This is probably the first series in India after many years when Pujara is not included in the team. The Indian middle order so far in the series has not been up to the mark, failing to perform on crucial timings. Shubman Gill has replaced Pujara as number three but has been failing to make his mark on the position, especially in the Indian subcontinent where Pujara has a brilliant track record. 3. Ajinkya Rahane Ajinkya Rahane. (Photo Source: Twitter) Ajinkya Rahane has been the Vice-Captain of the Indian Test Team for years and even captained India on some occasions including the iconic triumph over the Aussies on their home ground. He has been an integral part of the Indian middle order and has played some of the most crucial knocks especially when the team is in the most need.He was dropped alongside Cheteshwar Pujara in the last series and was not called up for this as well. Keeping in mind the lack of intent and performance of the current middle order, especially in the absence of Virat Kohli, an experienced player like Rahane is being missed in the squad. 2. Ishan Kishan Ishan Kishan. (Photo Source: Twitter) Ishan Kishan has been a regular with the team’s setup for a while now, playing across formats. He was present with the team and played a couple of matches in the World Cup as well. Being in form and keeping the wickets while playing aggressively with the bat, Ishan could have been the X-Factor player. He was dropped from the team after he decided to take a break, concerning his mental health. Later, it was said that he had been dropped on disciplinary grounds and Dhruv Jurel had been chosen instead of him in the team. 1. Shardul Thakur Shardul Thakur. (Photo Source: Twitter) Shardul Thakur has consistently been there with the team, especially in the Test Team. He was present with the team in the last series when the team toured South Africa. Although he did not have too great of a series he has been regular, especially because of the balance he brings to the table with him. He might have been dropped because of the spin-dominated nature of the pitches in the Indian subcontinent but he is the only pace bowling all-rounder in this format for India in the last couple of series and could have been included here as well.
