Asia Cup 2023: 5 Oldest Players in the tournament

The Asia Cup 2023, to be played in ODI format this time around, is just a couple of days away. With the ODI World Cup 2023 set to follow the continental tournament, Asian teams would be hoping to do well and get into the world tournament with surging confidence. The Asia Cup 2023 will begin on August 30 and will be hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka. India, Pakistan, and Nepal have been put in Group A, while Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan are in Group B. A total of 13 matches will be played, which includes six league matches, six Super 4 matches, and a final. Pakistan and India were seeded as A1 & A2 While Bangladesh and Sri Lanka were seeded as B1 & B2. In case Nepal and Afghanistan qualify for the Super Four stage, they will take the slot of the team knocked out (Pakistan or India in Group A and Sri Lanka or Bangladesh in Group B). A lot of familiar faces will be participating in the tournament and while younger players are preferred by teams nowadays, there is no alternative for experience. Kohli holds the record for the highest individual score in Asia Cup history when he made 183 against Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2012 in Mirpur. This helped India chase down the 330-run target with 6 wickets in hand. Kohli has played 11 matches in the Asia Cup and made 613 runs with 3 fifties and one century to his name. Thus far, he has played 13 matches and scored 402 runs with 3 fifties to his name and has picked 19 wickets with the ball. Hasan is widely considered to be the greatest cricketer produced by Bangladesh and he hopes that he can lead the Tigers to the Asia Cup title to win this year, after losing in the finals thrice. The diminutive keeper-batter has played 251 ODIs, scoring 7257 runs with 9 centuries at an average of 37.21. He has also played 86 Tests and 102 T20Is for Bangladesh and along with Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan, remains one of the few players who made their debut in 2007 to still continue playing for the Tigers. Well, at 36 years old, Mushfiqur would love to have a multi-nation tournament title to his name, and Asia Cup 2023 would be the best chance to realize that dream. Sharma had captained the Indian side in the absence of Virat Kohli in that edition of the Asia Cup in UAE and took the Men in Blue to the title, keeping the side unbeaten throughout. Now aged 36, this might be the final time Rohit plays in the Asia Cup, especially in the 50 overs format and he would love to win it once again and go into the ODI World Cup tournament with great momentum. Mohammad Nabi (AFG) - 38 years Mohammad Nabi (Image source: Twitter) Former Afghanistan captain Mohammad Nabi will be the oldest player in Asia Cup 2023 with an age of 38 years. Nabi had stepped down as Afghanistan captain after the loss in the T20 World Cup 2022 but has continued to play in international cricket in white-ball formats. He has a formidable record with 3085 runs in 145 ODIs with one century and 15 fifties and he has also taken 154 wickets with a best of 4/30. Nabi will be looking to help Afghanistan beat Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in Group B and proceed to the Super Fours round to have a chance to win the Asia Cup trophy.
