India defeated Sri Lanka in a one-sided affair to lift the Asia Cup 2023 trophy.

Sri Lanka landed as the underdogs in the tournament as their side lacked experience in front of India and Pakistan. However, the co-hosts emerged as a dangerous side in this competition with their diligence and perseverance. Under their captain Dasun Shanaka, the Sri Lanka team gave stiff competition to India and Pakistan.
The six-time Asia Cup champions qualified for the Super Four stage after beating Bangladesh and Afghanistan in the group round. In the Super Four round, they beat Bangladesh and Pakistan to advance to the final of the tournament. Against Shakib Al Hasan’s Bangladesh, they emerged triumphant by 21 runs.
Their impressive performance came against India in Colombo. Although they faced a 41-run loss against the Men in Blue, their positive attitude in the game was notable. The remarkable performance against India filled Sri Lanka with confidence. Against the hosts Pakistan, Shanaka and his boys were tasked to chase 252 runs in 42 overs.
Following the challenging total, Sri Lanka's batters were full of energy which helped them pull off the chase on the last delivery of the game. However, Sri Lanka’s batting completely collapsed in the decider match against India which became the cause of their humiliating 10-wicket defeat. In front of Mohammed Siraj’s sensational pace, Shanka and his boys surrendered on 50 which shattered the confidence of Sri Lanka bowlers as well.
