IPL 2023: 5 Players DC might trade in trading window

Delhi Capitals walked into the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League as one of the consistent teams having reached the playoffs in each of the last three seasons. They formed a great squad at the 2022 Mega Auction with most of the bases covered and would have hoped to end their title drought. However, DC stuttered at crucial junctures of the competition and missed out on the playoff berth. They finished fifth with seven wins in 14 games. The think tank would have some tough calls to make as they bid to go all the way next season and one could see them releasing players who had not been able to fit into the franchise’s scheme of things. Let us look at the players DC might trade in the trading window 5. Ripal Patel Ripal Patel was roped in by Delhi Capitals ahead of the 2021 season of the IPL and DC decided to pick him again at the 2022 Mega Auction. The batting all-rounder had smashed 299 runs in 19 T20 matches at a strike rate of over 150 (at the time of the auction) and walked into the lucrative tournament looking to make a mark on the big stage. However, the Gujarat batter could only feature in two games for the Capitals and got a chance to bat just once. In that lone game, Ripal failed to make much impact with the bat and scored six runs. Further, he was not given an opportunity to showcase his skills with the ball. The 27-year-old was dropped after two games and was not backed for a longer run. DC persisted with Lalit Yadav for a lower-middle order slot where the Delhi batter played a couple of crucial knocks for the side. Given how Ripal was managed, it does not seem the Delhi franchise looks at him as a future prospect and can release him in the forthcoming trading window. 4. KS Bharat KS Bharat has been bank in the Indian domestic circuit accumulating 4386 runs in 81 first-class matches. The wicket-keeper batter showcased his class in the IPL arena in the 2021 season and scored 191 runs in seven innings for Royal Challengers Bangalore at a strike rate of 122.43. DC roped in the 29-year-old to provide solidity to the batting lineup. However, with skipper Rishabh Pant being the top wicketkeeper in the side, Bharat had to warm the bench for the majority of the season. The Andhra Pradesh batter got just two games where he could only manage eight runs. DC have a star-studded top order with the likes of Prithvi Shaw, David Warner, and Mitchell Marsh in the mix. Thus, Bharat who generally bats higher up in the batting lineup, might not be used much in the coming seasons as well. Therefore, the Delhi team might look to trade him, and other franchises needing a solid Indian batter might latch onto the opportunity. 3. Mandeep Singh Mandeep Singh has been a regular feature in the IPL circuit for over a decade. He has shown glimpses of his batting prowess but is yet to have a breakthrough season. Delhi Capitals picked the Punjab batter at the 2022 Mega Auction to bolster their Indian batting core. The 30-year-old had a golden chance to make it big in the lucrative T20 tournament. However, Mandeep failed to make the opportunities count and could only score 18 runs at a poor strike rate of 78.26 in the three games. The Delhi franchise is full of match-winners at the top of the order and given Mandeep’s awful outings, DC can look to trade him in the upcoming trading window. Many franchises looking for a solid Indian top-order batter can try and rope in the veteran player in their lineup. 2. Chetan Sakariya Chetan Sakariya caught everyone’s eyeballs in IPL 2021 when he took 14 wickets in as many matches played for Rajasthan Royals. On the back of the incredible campaign, the left-arm pacer broke into the international circuit and was one of the exciting prospects in the country. Delhi Capitals picked the left-arm pacer at this year’s IPL auction to add variety to their bowling arsenal. However, his fellow teammate Khaleel Ahmed’s had a stellar campaign that saw him take 16 wickets in 10 games, which meant Sakariya was not able to get a fair share of opportunities. The youngster got three games and took three wickets at an economy of 7.64. Moreover, the 24-year-old was spotted in Rajasthan’s jersey cheering for them at the IPL Final 2022. It appears that Sakariya still owes a lot to his former franchise which gave him a big break. Therefore, one can see DC who already have great depth in their fast-bowling stocks trade him when the trading window opens and free up 4.20 crore. 1. Tim Seifert Tim Seifert has been a proven performer in the T20 circuit. He has the ability to take the attack to the opposition from ball one, and the Delhi franchise drafted the swashbuckling batter to add fire-power to their batting lineup. With David Warner unavailable for the starting games of the competition, Seifert was given the opportunity at the top of the order. However, the Kiwi batter failed to make the most of it and could only score 24 runs in two outings. With the Australian southpaw back in the mix, Seifert was dropped from the team and was not given another run. The 27-year-old has not been amid a lean patch in the T20 circuit of late and has also failed to make it to New Zealand’s T20 World Cup squad. In the recently concluded CPL, the wicket-keeper batter scored 221 runs at an awful strike rate of 93.24. Seifert has looked far from his best and with DC’s top-quality batting stocks, they could look to release the Kiwi batter in the upcoming trading window.
