IPL 2023: 5 Players from INR 1 crore bracket who might go unsold
Ahead of the player auction, 991 players (714 Indian and 277 overseas) have thrown in their names to go under the hammer.
1. Martin Guptill
Martin Guptill has been a giant of a player in the T20 circuit. The veteran batter has featured in 303 games in the shortest format and accumulated an insane tally of 8569 runs at a strike rate of 130.80. Guptill has been quite brilliant for New Zealand too and notched up 3531 runs in 122 T20Is at a strike rate of 135.70.
Guptill, who has dismantled top-drawer bowling attacks with his stroke play for over a decade, has been a pale shadow of his vintage self this calendar year. He has played 10 T20Is and managed to score just 232 runs at an average of 23.20. Given the ace batter is not at the peak of his powers, IPL franchises might not show interest in signing him at the upcoming auction.
Further, the Kiwi batter has not been able to hold on to his place in the New Zealand team. Though Guptill was in the national squad for the T20 World Cup 2022, he could not get a single game. Then the flamboyant batter was not part of the recently culminated white-ball series against India. He has also been released from the central contract. With the veteran batter’s future in international cricket doubtful, the possibility of him getting an IPL gig is quite grim.
