Jonny Bairstow adds strength to Punjab Kings (PBKS) with his immense experience and stupendous skills. His role becomes crucial for Kings as he reinforces the team with his batting in the top order. Serving the franchise for the first time in 2022, the veteran piled up 253 runs with two fifties in 11 games at a strike rate of 144.57.

After a few months of the league, the England opener broke his leg and ankle while playing golf. The accident didn’t allow him to become part of England’s ICC T20 World Cup campaign. After going through surgery, it was expected that the dashing batter will be available for PBKS in 2023.

However, the 33-year-old is yet to recover from the injury and now it’s likely that he might not feature in IPL 2023 edition. The right-handed batter has 1,291 runs with the help of nine fifties and a century in 39 matches at a magnificent strike rate of 142.65.

The Punjab-based franchise have roped in swashbuckling Australian opener Matthew Short as a replacement for the injured Yorkshireman. Short, who was named the player of the tournament in the latest edition of the Big Bash League is also a handy off-spinner apart from being a prolific batter. The franchise would be hoping that his arrival could boost their chances of making it to the playoffs this time around.
