IPL 2023: Flop XI from third week
These players looked out of colours in the third week of the marquee T20 league.
5. Dinesh Karthik
Banking on Dinesh Karthik’s experience and ability, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) trusted him to reinforce their batting unit in the lower middle order. In 2022, he displayed his brilliance with the bat and delivered some incredible match-finishing innings to Challengers.
In 2023, Karthik has scored in double digits twice. In the third week, RCB played three games, and in all these contests, Karthik delivered underwhelming batting figures to his team.
Against Delhi Capitals (DC), he was dismissed for a duck by Kuldeep Yadav. While against Punjab Kings (PBKS), he went back to the pavilion after piling up only seven runs.
Earlier, in the high-scoring contest against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), the wicketkeeper-batter had a chance to take his team home with his match-finishing skills, but he choked under pressure and gave his wicket to Tushar Deshpande. With his dismissal on 28 off 14, RCB’s chances in the game got diminished, and in the end, Super Kings took the game home by eight runs.
