IPL 2024: Best overseas XI of the week

In the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction in Dubai, a huge amount was spent on some overseas players. The league has returned with its much-awaited 2024 edition and fans have now witnessed the first week of the competition. As some foreign players had got huge chunks of money at the business event in Dubai, several fans were eager to witness how these players would fare. Following the action in the first week, it can be said some overseas players looked extraordinary and justified their roles while some struggled to be at their best and their responsibilities will be to regain their form this week. With the conclusion of the first week, it’s time to know some overseas players who performed exceptionally. Here is the best overseas XI of the week: 1. Travis Head Travis Head ( Photo source: IPL ) Australia top-order batter Travis Head made his comeback in the league after seven years with his magnificent 62-run knockoff 24 balls against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. Batting as an opener, he gave an ideal start to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). The southpaw completed his half-century in just 18 deliveries and surpassed David Warner’s feat for the fastest fifty for SRH. However, Head held the record for a few minutes as Abhishek Sharma shattered his feat with a 16-ball fifty. 2. Rachin Ravindra Rachin Ravindra. (Source -IPL) In Devon Conway’s absence, Rachin Ravindra has done a brilliant job for Chennai Super Kings (CSK), as an opener. The stylish left-handed batter has delivered fierce starts to the side, so far. Against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, CSK pocketed a six-wicket win and Ravindra’s contribution was 37 runs off just 15 deliveries. After hammering the Challengers, CSK handed a crushing 63-run defeat to Gujarat Titans (GT) in Chennai and Ravindra again looked potent with his 46 runs off just 20 balls. 3. Shai Hope Shai Hope. (Photo Source: X(Twitter) Shai Hope made his IPL debut for Delhi Capitals (DC) against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Mohali. Playing his maiden game, he came to bat at number three and scored 32 runs off 25 deliveries with two fours and two maximums. 4. Sam Curran Sam Curran ( Photo Source: BCCI/IPL) Sam Curran has struggled to be among the wickets with the ball but he has exuded confidence as a batter. In Punjab’s maiden contest against Delhi in Mohali, the 25-year-old played 63-run knockoff 47 deliveries and guided the hosts to a comfortable four-wicket win. Punjab lost their next game against RCB at the M. Chinnaswanmy Stadium but Curran looked decent with his bat, scoring 23 off just 17. 5. Heinrich Klaasen (WK) Henrich Klassen. (Photo Source: Jio Cinema) Heinrich Klaasen has looked sensational with his bat in the competition, thus far. Against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), he couldn’t take his team home but his extraordinary 63 off just 29 received a lot of appreciation. Against MI at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, the wicket-keeper batter massacred the visitor’s bowling attack and smashed 80 runs in just 34 deliveries. 6. Andre Russell Andre Russell. (Source - IPL) Andre Russell put up a stunning all-round show against SRH at Eden Gardens. With the bat, he took Hyderabad’s bowling attack to the cleaners and helped his team post 208 runs on the board. He returned to the dugout with his unbeaten 64 off just 25 deliveries. His innings were studded with three fours and seven maximum. After the stunning batting show, the veteran exuded confidence with the ball, picking up the crucial scalps of Abhishek Sharma and Abdul Samad. 7. Sunil Narine Sunil Narine (Source -IPL) Sunil Narine spearheaded KKR’s spin-bowling unit confidently against SRH in tough bowling conditions at Eden Gardens. In his four-over spell, he gave away only 19 runs and sent Rahul Tripathi back to the pavilion. 8. Pat Cummins Pat Cummins. (Source -Twitter/X) Pat Cummins led SRH from the front in the league’s first week. Against KKR at Eden Gardens, he delivered a frugal spell to his team, registering 1/32 figures in his four-over spell. The Sunrisers collected two points with their comfortable 31-run win against MI in Hyderabad and Pat Cummins was seen disciplined with the ball. Bowling four overs, he splurged only 35 runs and got rid of Rohit Sharma and Tilak Varma. 9. Spencer Johnson Spenser Johnson. (Source -IPL) Spencer Johnson kicked off his IPL career, leaking 17 runs in his first over against MI at the distinguished Narendra Modi Stadium. Following the terrible over, Johnson didn’t get demoralised and returned to bowl the penultimate over of the game. In his second over, he splurged only eight runs and dismissed Tilak Varma and Gerald Coetzee. The pacer’s bowling effort helped GT win the game by six runs. 10. Mustafizur Rahman Mustafizur Rahman (Source -CSK) Mustafizur Rahman played the role of wrecker-in-chief in CSK’s six-wicket victory over RCB at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. He grabbed 4/29 figures with the ball and recorded his best bowling innings in IPL. In his fiery spell, he claimed the scalps of Faf du Plessis, Rajat Patidar, Virat Kohli, and Cameron Green. The speedster continued his fine form against GT, racking up 2/30 figures in his four overs. 11. Trent Boult Trent Boult. (Photo Source: BCCI/IPL) Trent Boult looked fabulous against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Sawai Singh Stadium. Defending 193, Rajasthan Royals (RR) required early breakthroughs and the New Zealand speedster stepped up in the first over and got the better of Quinton de Kock. In his next over, he cleaned up Devdutt Padikkal and handed the second blow to the Super Giants. The 34-year-old’s attack put Lucknow in a defensive mode which eventually cost the visitors the game by 20 runs.
