Shane Watson served RCB for two years in the 2016 and 2017 seasons. He produced the best bowling performance of his IPL career in 2016, against Gujarat Lions (GL) in Qualifier 1 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. On Bengaluru’s batting surface, Iqbal Abdulla delivered a fine start to the hosts with the ball and the Aussie stalwart continued the momentum.

In the fourth over of the game, the veteran dismissed the GL skipper Suresh Raina and helped RCB to have a command over the game. After three early wickets, Dinesh Karthik and Dwayne Smith stitched an 85-run partnership and stabilised Gujarat’s innings. Chris Jordan took Karthik’s wicket and pushed GL into trouble again.

Taking advantage of Gujarat’s frail condition, Watson got the better of Ravindra Jadeja and Dwayne Bravo. The Australia legend ended his spell with 4/29 figures and contained Gujarat for 158. His amazing bowling display eventually worked in RCB’s favour as they pocketed a four-wicket win.
