ODI World Cup 2023: Best XI of Group Stage
In the league round, some players looked extraordinary and shattered several feats. Witnessing their exceptional performances thus far, it’s time to pick the best XI of the league round.
10. Dilshan Madushanka
The Sri Lanka Cricket team is going through a difficult time after its World Cup debacle. In their disappointing campaign, few things went positive and one of them was Dilshan Madushanka’s bowling performance. Picking up 21 wickets in nine matches, he ended up as Sri Lanka’s leading wicket-taker in the competition.
Against the quality side Australia, Sri Lanka registered a five-wicket defeat but Madushanka tried to defend the low total courageously. Bagging the crucial scalps of David Warner and Steven Smith early, the pacer created pressure on the Aussie side. In the losing cause, Madushanka recorded 3/38 figures in his nine overs.
Sri Lanka lost to India by 302 runs at the Wankhede Stadium and registered their massive World Cup defeat (by runs). In the contest against the hosts, Madushanka only looked impressive for Sri Lanka. Dismissing Rohit Sharma on the second delivery of the match, the pacer delivered an early blow to India. Later in the game, he trapped Shubman Gill and Kohli as well.
