7. Ben Stokes – England

It was a huge deal before the ICC World Cup 2023 that Ben Stokes had reversed his decision to retire from ODIs for this tournament and started well by hammering 180 plus in an ODI against New Zealand at home. However, when he arrived in the World Cup, he was already struggling with a knee injury and then suffered a hip issue before the tournament began.

He only played 6 matches in CWC 2023, in which he failed initially, but then hit 304 runs with one century to his name as England was eliminated from the tournament with 3 wins from 9 games. Stokes will undergo a knee surgery before the India Test tour and his future in ODIs remains clouded.
