6. 'Yeh pagalpanti nahi karte hum', reply to a reporter while answering about the batting position

Prior to the 2023 Asia Cup, India captain Rohit and the chief selector Ajit Agarkar announced India’s squad for the continental tournament through a press conference. The duo was asked several questions from the media on the crucial occasion. In the important meeting with the press, Rohit was questioned about concerns regarding the number four batting spot.

Replying to the query, Rohit said he isn’t worried about batting positions as he expects his players to be flexible. Following Rohit’s answer, a journalist asked if this meant that players hadn’t been told about their particular role in the team and if this led to confusion in the side.

The dashing India opener gave clarity about the flexibility saying, “When we first came into the team our positions (also used to change). You take a look at my positions over the years. We all have had to do that when we were young. That is the kind of flexibility I am talking about. Yeh nahi ki ye opener hai isko 8 number pe bhej do aur 8 number wale ko upar kara do. Yeh paagalpanti nai karte hum. (It doesn't mean that you send an opener to bat at No.8 and a No.8 is promoted to the top of the order. We don't do these kinds of nonsensical things).”
