T20 World Cup 2022: 5 Players who might be dropped based on first week's performances
In seven days of exhilarating cricket at the T20 extravaganza, there have been certain players who have not been able to deliver the goods and might be dropped from the side.
2. Temba Bavuma
Temba Bavuma has been all at sea since he returned to the international fold after sustaining an elbow injury. In the T20I series against India, the 32-year-old scored mere three runs in as many games. The South African skipper’s terrible form continued as he scored eight in the lone ODI he played in the recent culminated tour of India.
Bavuma’s lean patch has extended as he had another failure in the World Cup game against Bangladesh, when he scored just two runs off six deliveries. His batting failures have exposed the middle-order very early in the innings. Thus, his place in the side could be in danger.
Though dropping a skipper from a team in the middle of a high-profile competition is not ideal, it has almost become inevitable. Moreover, South Africa have Reeza Hendricks waiting in the wings. He has been in a rich vein of form in the T20I circuit and has aggregated 323 runs in eight games played this year at a superb strike rate of 139.82. Thus, Bavuma could be sidelined going forward.
