T20 World Cup 2022: 5 reasons why Australia might successfully defend their T20 World Cup title
The defending champions, Australia, are once again one of the favourites to win the tournament.
4. Multiple bowling options
One thing the Aussies have had in abundance ever since they started playing cricket is the number of all-rounders. Things are the same this time around as well as Australia have four all-rounders in the squad for the T20 World Cup. When you have two batters in the top five who can also bowl, you can afford to play an extra batter to increase the batting depth.
Australia have the luxury of Mitchell Marsh, Stoinis, Maxwell and Ashton Agar in the squad. Agar and Maxwell have been extremely economical for the Aussies in the last 12 months whereas Stoinis has been breaking partnerships in the middle overs. Marsh wasn't much in the picture due to injuries, but he is a valuable asset for the team with the ball.
In the last year, Agar has taken five wickets in seven matches at an economy of just over five. Maxwell bowls mostly in the powerplay and is economical as well with his economy rate being just under 7.5 in the last one year. To conclude, these multiple bowling options will be the key for Australia to defend their T20 World Cup title.
