T20 World Cup 2022: 5 reasons why Australia might successfully defend their T20 World Cup title
The defending champions, Australia, are once again one of the favourites to win the tournament.
5. Finishers
Finishers are the most important assets in the shortest format of the game. A good finishing pair can help a team score an extra 15 odd runs in the death overs which makes a massive difference in the outcome of the game.
The Aussies have recently added a star striker to their team, Tim David. He is going to play a vital role in the finishing department for Australia. In his short T20I career, he has accumulated 585 runs at a whopping strike rate of 160. Apart from him, the Kangaroos have Matthew Wade, Stoinis, and Maxwell who fall right into the same category.
Wade, the star of the semi-final match against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2021, will be looking to repeat his heroics in front of his home crowd. Stoinis is another hard hitter who will be looking to prove his mettle. His has represented Australia in 47 matches and has a strike rate of 145.
No total is beyond the reach with him in the squad. All these factors combined make Australia the favourites to win the World Cup and they might as well become the first team to defend their T20 title.
