India clinched the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup in 2007 with a very young side and did it against all odds. With the emergence of the Indian Premier League, Big Bash League, Vitality Blast, Pakistan Super League and many other leagues, confidence and game awareness with respect to T20 cricket among players has skyrocketed.

The players have become even more agile and aware of how to play the shorter format and have understood it’s not just about hitting the ball from the word go. Several senior players have seen the shorter format grow in front of their eyes and now are at the brink of their careers.

With the T20 World Cup lined up to take place in West Indies and USA in 2024, eight months after the ODI world cup, the teams will be preparing fast to get their best XI on the field. But there are many senior players who might retire after the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Here's the list of players who might retire after 2024 T20 World Cup and their probable replacements:

1) Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma has been constant in the Indian T20 setup and was a part of the 2007 World Cup winning team. Rohit Sharma started as a middle-order batter and then gradually shifted to the top of the order with his skills and ability to play fearless cricket. Rohit, the batter, has four T20 international centuries under his name and has contributed heavily to India in the top of the order.

With Rohit turning 37 in 2024, it can be possible that he might be playing his last T20 World Cup for India and with young emerging players playing a fearless brand of cricket, the team would surely go through a transition phase and get new and talented players into the team. At the top of the order, a possible replacement for Rohit Sharma could be Yashasvi Jaiswal; the prolific left-hander has been in top form and has piled up runs in all formats of the game.

In the recently concluded IPL, Yashaswi smashed the fastest fifty in IPL history of just 13 balls and was also among the top five players who scored the most number of runs this season. Yashasvi has got a temperament which belongs to the highest level, and with the talent he has, it would be great to see him excel for India in the opening position after Rohit Sharma.
