T20 World Cup 2024: 3 players who might retire after the tournament and their possible replacements
T20 Cricket has become dynamic since it’s inception and with world cups and major leagues throughout the world being a constant, the competition to be in the XI has increased exponentially.
3. David Warner
David Warner burst onto the cricketing scene in T20 cricket, and from then, the Australian batter has gone from strength to strength. The left-handed batter has only looked to play one way, and that was to attack the opposition with his dominant shots. The left-handed opening batter has been a regular in the Australian T20 team and has churned out runs at a healthy rate at the top of the order.
However, in the recently concluded IPL, David Warner was seen struggling a bit with his strike rate. Even though Delhi Capitals found themselves in tough situations in most of the matches while they were batting, it wasn’t just the team situation which was the reason for Warner’s dip in strike rate. With Warner being 36 and him hinting at his plans for retirement from Test cricket in 2024, it is just a matter of time before he calls it a day in his career in the shortest format as well. A possible replacement for the Australian opening batter would be Josh Inglis.
Josh Inglis is an innovative batter with aggressive batting skills and the ability to keep wickets. The right-handed batter has been able to impress everyone in his short T20I career of nine matches and has an excellent strike rate of 141.02 in the shortest format. The batter possesses great ability to manufacture innovative shots and break the rhythm of opposition bowlers. Inglis can be a possible replacement for David Warner at the top of the order, and with ample opportunities and backing, he can come up with innings which will be a deciding factor in many crucial games for Australia.
