This defeat in the final of Asia Cup 2012 was the most heartbreaking one for the Bangladesh team. Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim had won the toss and chosen to bowl first in Mirpur. Pakistan never got going on the sluggish track and posted 236/9.

Mohammad Hafeez (40), Sarfaraz Ahmed (46*) Umar Akmal, and Hammad Azam with 30 each were the main scorers for Pakistan. Mashrafe Mortaza, Abdur Razzak, and Shakib Al Hasan picked two each for Bangladesh.

Bangladesh was doing great in the chase with Tamim Iqbal (60) giving them a good start and then Shakib Al Hasan (68) keeping them going in the middle overs. It was an intense battle that went down to the wire, with Bangladesh requiring nine runs off the final over.

However, Aizaz Cheema kept Mahmudullah quiet and managed to defend the 9 runs with Pakistan winning the match and the tournament by 2 runs. It was a tearful and heartbreaking ending for Bangladesh.
