WI vs IND 2023: 3 players who deserved to be in India's Test squad

The central theme of the squad selection seems to be giving some youngsters a chance and that is why Mumbai batter Sarfaraz Khan rides atop this list. If any youngster is deserving enough to feature in the Indian Test team, it is Sarfaraz. He has scored 3505 runs in 27 First Class matches at an average of 79.65 with 13 centuries in the domestic season. Yet, he finds no place in the Indian Test squad.

Conversely, several youngsters like Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad have found their way in. It seems that the BCCI’s selection committee is paying attention to the current IPL season while making its decisions. Sarfaraz flopped for the Delhi Capitals in IPL 2023 as he scored just 53 runs in four outings, with a highest score of 30. His T20 form might have been the reason behind his absence from the Test squad. 

However, this snub would be a hard one for Sarfaraz to swallow. Nevertheless, the performance of a red-ball batter in a T20 franchise league must never be a determinant for the selection in Test squad. However, India selectors probably think otherwise. As it is, the Mumbai batter will have to wait longer for his Test call-up.
