World Cup 2023: Top 5 Players to Watch Out for in their maiden ODI World Cup
These illustrious names will look to justify their roles in their debut World Cup edition.
1. Shubman Gill
Shubman Gill has proven his batting skills as an opener in recent years. This year, the dashing youngster grabbed a lot of eyeballs with his double-century against New Zealand in Hyderabad. In 2023, Gill has played nine matches thus far, in which he scored 624 runs with three tons and a half-century at a marvellous strike rate of 117.51.
These fine batting numbers will delight Indian cricket team supporters and they will now keep their expectations high from Gill in the upcoming marquee ODI event to be played at home. Looking at the future, the Indian team management preferred young Gill over the veteran Shikhar Dhawan to open the innings.
In return, the 23-year-old has also delivered solid numbers to the side with his spunky batting knocks. Notching up 1311 runs with four tons and five fifties in 24 ODIs at a strike rate of 107.10, he also became the fastest Indian to cross the 1000-run mark in the longest format of white-ball cricket.
