WPL 2023: 5 Indian batters to watch out for
Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Giants will lock horns in the first match on March 4 at 7:30 pm. All matches of the tournament will be played in Mumbai.
1.Smriti Mandhana
Smriti Mandhana became the first and the most expensive player at the auction after getting picked by RCB at a humongous price of INR 3.4 crore. Her glorifying batting record for the national team played a crucial role in making her a credible pick for the franchise. Till now, the 26-year-old has piled up 2,802 runs with 22 fifties in 116 games at a strike rate of 123.87.
The batting icon delivered her best for India in the recently concluded Women’s T20 World Cup too. Playing four games in the competition, she hit 151 runs at a mind-boggling strike rate of 138.53. With these outstanding numbers, she also became the leading run-scorer for India in the tournament. After becoming the costliest player at the auction, the veteran will look to justify her amount in the WPL.
The RCB team management has also trusted her leadership skills and has named her the captain for the marquee league. Mandhana will be supported by the presence of a perfect blend of tested veterans and talented youngsters in the squad. RCB boasts of renowned players such as Ellyse Perry, Richa Ghosh, Dan Van Niekerk and Sophie Devine, who will all come together in the quest for the cup.
