WPL 2023: Flop playing XI from inaugural season
The maiden Women's Premier League concluded on March 26 with Mumbai Indians defeating Delhi Capitals to lift the trophy.
4. Jemimah Rodrigues
Jemimah Rodrigues was one of the names to watch out for before the marquee event. Going by her numbers in international cricket, Delhi Capitals (DC) splurged a colossal amount of INR 2.2 crore at the 2023 WPL auction. Along with her skipper Alice Capsey, Marizanne Kapp, and Jess Jonasson, her role in the team was to strengthen DC’s middle order.
However, her batting numbers show that Rodrigues couldn’t justify her price in the competition. The 22-year-old added only 126 runs in seven innings of nine matches at a strike rate of 128.57. In her initial five games, she started well but failed to convert those innings into huge ones.
In the all-important final against Mumbai Indians, Delhi expected her to hold her nerves and stabilise their innings after the early departure of top-order batters Shafali Verma and Alice Capsey. However, that couldn’t happen as Issy Wong forced the right-handed batter to join her colleagues in the pavilion at a score of 9.
