Women's Premier League 2023: Owners of all 5 WPL teams

The inaugural edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023 has fans buzzing with excitement as the tournament is scheduled to begin on March 4. Mumbai Indians will be going up against Gujarat Giants in the season opener of the tournament. BCCI will hope that the WPL could have a similar impact on women’s cricket as the IPL has had on men’s. The owners of the franchises have a huge role to play in the team’s success as well. With the WPL season set to begin on March 4, let us have a look at the owners of all five franchises. Owners of all 5 WPL franchises 5. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB-W) - United Spirits One of the most popular franchises, Royal Challengers Bangalore, have no shortage of fans or star players. They are currently owned by United Spirits Limited, and Prathamesh Mishra is the current chairman of the team. Going into the WPL, RCB-W will be led by ace Indian batter Smriti Mandhana, and the team also boasts an impressive line-up with the likes of Ellyse Perry, Richa Ghosh, and Erin Burns. The team will be mentored by tennis great Sania Mirza as they look to win the coveted title. In their first match of the season, they will take on Delhi Capitals on March 5. 4. Delhi Capitals (DEL-W) - JSW & GMR Group In 2019, JSW Steel entered into a partnership deal with GMR Group to become the co-owners of the franchise. Parth Jindal is the current chairman of the franchise and is quite active in supporting them as well. The Delhi-based side will be led by Meg Lanning. The franchise was also quite tactical in its spending at the auction. They were able to bring in the likes of Shafali Verma, Radha Yadav, and Marizanne Kapp to further bolster their team. In their first match, Delhi will take on Royal Challengers Bangalore, led by Smriti Mandhana. Jonathan Batty will be the head coach of the side. 3. UP Warriorz (UP-W) - Capri Global The Indian investment holding company Capri Global is the owner of UP Warriorz. Rajesh Sharma, owner of Capri Global is the managing director of the franchise as well. Alyssa Healy will be leading UP Warriorz in the inaugural season of the WPL. Along with Healy, UP-W also have an impressive line-up of players and could make a strong case for themselves in the tournament. Deepti Sharma will be the deputy of Healy during the tournament. In their first game, UP-W will be going up against Gujarat Giants on March 5. Jon Lewis will be the head coach of the franchise. 2. Gujarat Giants (GUJ-W) - Adani Group Gujarat Giants are owned by the Adani Group, led by Gautam Adani, and the team has also roped in former Indian cricketer Mithali Raj as its mentor. Beth Mooney will be leading GUJ-W in the tournament. Apart from her, the team was also able to bring in Ashleigh Gardner, Sophie Dunkley, and Harleen Deol, making them one of the biggest contenders for the title. Gujarat Giants will be going up against Mumbai Indians, which will also be the very first match of the inaugural WPL on March 4. Rachael Haynes will be the head coach of the team. 1. Mumbai Indians (MI-W) - Reliance Industries One of the most popular franchises, Mumbai Indians, is owned by Reliance Industries. While Mukesh Ambani owns the team, Nita Ambani is always seen representing them on public platforms. Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur was elected as the captain of Mumbai Indians women for the tournament. They too boast a fabulous line-up with the likes of Amelia Kerr, Nat Sciver-Brunt, and many more. Mumbai Indians women will be playing the season opener against Gujarat Giants at the Dr. DY.
