Cricket in Pakistan is a good news for the fans: Gautam Gambhir
World XI and Pakistan XI will take part in a 3-match T20 series.
Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir said that the upcoming T20 series between World XI and Pakistan XI is a good step for Pakistan cricket. He said that it is a welcome move for Pakistan, as no one was willing to play in the country, considering the conditions and circumstances due to constant terror attacks. Since the 2009 terrorist strike on the Sri Lankan cricket team’s bus, no country has participated in a series in Pakistan, apart from Zimbabwe. The African nation visited them in the year 2015.
Gambhir also said that it is a good news for the fans, as they could not get to see their team play at home, and were obviously disappointed. The green army has played most of their matches in UAE, after shifting their base away from home. He stressed on the fact that security will be a big concern. Lahore will host all the three encounters. It was the venue chosen for the PSL finals, earlier this year.
Calling a spade a spade
The Indian opener is a popular figure on social media. He can often be seen expressing his views on current affairs and important issues. The Delhite recently criticized the violence caused in Haryana and Punjab due to a special CBI court judgment that held Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh as guilty. Gambhir tweeted, “Wonder what Ram & Rahim are thinking about the ‘Insaan’ & his misdeeds today! A classic case of religion marketing!”
Gambhir never minces his words. He took a potshot at former Indian skipper MS Dhoni and said that the right-handed batsman will have to deliver, in order to survive. “The only way he can survive till 2019 World Cup is by keep on performing. That should be the criteria for everyone, irrespective of whether he is Dhoni or someone else,” the Delhi cricketer was quoted by ESPNCricinfo.
