'Rest Virat Kohli, elders have already shown their form' - Aakash Chopra suggests changes in India's XI for Asia Cup clash against Bangladesh
"The elders have already shown their form. So if I have to play Shreyas Iyer, and I do feel he should be played, I will ask Virat to take rest," Chopra said.
Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has voiced his opinion on the upcoming clash between India and Bangladesh in the ongoing Asia Cup 2023. Chopra believes that if the talented Shreyas Iyer is fit and ready, India should consider including him in the playing XI.
Iyer had been sidelined since his appearance against Pakistan earlier in the tournament due to a back spasm. However, he has been honing his skills in the nets.
"I feel Shreyas Iyer should be played if he is fit. To be fair, he is practicing a lot. He has practiced the most, he is really sweating it out. I am pretty sure that he has recovered from back spasms if he is practicing," Chopra said on his YouTube channel.
Furthermore, the cricketer turned commentator suggested a tactical move, proposing that one of the senior members of India's batting order should make way for Iyer in the lineup.
"Some people might get angry, but I believe you shouldn't say anything to the small kids in the house. You should ask them to play because the elders are experienced and will adjust later," he added.

Intriguingly, the former India opener also suggested resting the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for the clash against Bangladesh, with an eye on keeping him fresh for the all-important final against Sri Lanka in Colombo. Notably, Kohli has scored 129 runs in three innings in the tournament so far.
"The elders have already shown their form. I am talking about Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. So if I have to play Shreyas Iyer, and I do feel he should be played, I will ask Virat to take rest, although he hasn't played much cricket in the entire August," Chopra said on his YouTube channel.
