'All eyes will be on Shubman Gill for the next few years' - Harbhajan Singh predicts bright future for India youngster
When the spinners are in the attack, Shubman Gill stays at the wicket, and that has been good for Gujarat, says Sanjay Manjrekar.
Defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) are one of the sides that have ticked almost all the boxes in the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL). They are currently leading the IPL 2023 points table after winning six of their eight games. Shubman Gill, the opening batter, is one of the team's top players, consistently delivering solid starts in the ongoing season.
Now, the veteran India spinner has heaped praise on Gill, stating that the youngster appears to be a perfect timer of the ball. He remarked that the Punjab cricketer wil serve Indian cricket in all formats for a long time, adding that his IPL performance for GT must have given him a lot of confidence.
“All eyes will be on Shubman Gill for the next few years. He looks like a perfect timer of the cricket ball. He will play big innings and play for India in multiple formats. Performance for Gujarat Titans in IPL must have given him a lot of self-confidence.” Harbhajan Singh said while speaking on Star Sports’ Cricket Live.
Gill reads spinners well and doesn’t take extra risks: Manjrekar
Meanwhile, former India batter Sanjay Manjrekar also lauded Gill for the way he handled the spinners. The 57-year-old claimed that Gill stays at the wicket while the spinners are in the attack, which has been favourable for GT.
“When the spinners are in the attack, Shubman Gill stays at the wicket, and that has been good for Gujarat. He reads spinners well and doesn’t take extra risks,” Manjrekar said.
Harbhajan Singh agreed with Manjrekar's views and lauded Gill for his attitude against spinners. The 42-year-old stated that if the spinner is forced to come up and play, he will not be sidetracked and will take his time and play in his own style.
"Gill is very comfortable against spinners. He is a master of this art. If the spinner forces Gill to come forward and play, then he does not get distracted. He takes his time and plays in his own style," Harbhajan further said.
