India pacer Arshdeep Singh may finally earn his Test call-up following an impressive run in the shorter formats. India will be touring to Australia for the 2024-25 Border Gavaskar Trophy, and this series may well be his chance to debut for the country in white kits. However, the opportunity doesn't come directly, as the youngster will have to feature in domestic cricket, starting with the Duleep Trophy in September.

Reports from The Times of India have suggested that Arshdeep has grabbed the attention of All India Men's Senior Selection Committee for the important Test calendar in the ongoing season. Apart from Arshdeep, another left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed is also a strong contender to tour down under for the series, and may also be picked for the home matches against Bangladesh and New Zealand.

“Arshdeep has moved the ball impressively in white-ball matches for India. He could be asked to play a few domestic red-ball games, starting with the Duleep Trophy on September 5, to enhance his chances of selection for the Australia tour. There's a real chance that he could be India's trump card, along with (Jasprit) Bumrah, in Australia,” a source in the report said.

“In fact, the selectors are keen on another left-arm pace option in the white-ball side at least, which is why Khaleel Ahmed toured Zimbabwe and has been picked for both the ODIs and T20Is in Sri Lanka,” it added.

The addition of youngsters for the Australian assignment won't be new though. In India's previous tour in 2020-21, a young team with the likes of Shubman Gill, Prithvi Shaw, Rishabh Pant, T Natarajan, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, and Mohammed Siraj were the fresh picks. The team also emerged victorious, and clinched the series 2-1, jointly captained by Ajinkya Rahane and Virat Kohli.A
