Bangladesh to face India in ODI for first time in India since 1998

In a highly anticipated clash, India and Bangladesh are set to lock horns in the 17th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at the iconic MCA Stadium in Pune on October 19. This encounter not only stirs up the age-old rivalry between these two cricketing nations but also signifies a momentous occasion – a face-off in India's one-day internationals after an absence of 25 years, dating back to 1998.

In a revelation that is bound to raise eyebrows among cricket aficionados, the impending showdown between India and Bangladesh marks the long-awaited resurgence of their ODI rivalry on Indian soil after a staggering 25-year hiatus. The most recent encounter in India between these two cricketing giants unfolded in May 1998, a memorable clash during a tri-series featuring India, Bangladesh, and Kenya.

Recalling the last ODI encounter between India and Bangladesh on Indian soil

Electing to field first, the Indian bowlers showcased a masterclass, dismantling the Bangladeshi batting order early on, reducing them to a precarious 21/3. Their relentless pressure yielded five more wickets within the next 50 runs, leaving the visitors in dire straits. A resilient 44-run partnership for the ninth wicket, led by Hasibul Hossain and Khaled Mashud, salvaged Bangladesh's hopes as they surpassed the 100-run milestone.

However, Sachin Tendulkar, in a swift two-ball sequence, terminated the innings, dismissing Bangladesh for a mere 115 runs.
