BCCI planning to axe Michael Clarke from commentary panel after spat with partner
Clarke is reportedly set to lose a sum of US $100,000.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly planning to axe former Australian skipper Michael Clarke from the commentary panel following his controversial spat with his partner Jade Yarbrough recently. Clarke was roped in as one of the Australian players in the broadcast panel for the upcoming four-match Test series between India and Australia starting February 9.
Should the 2015 World Cup-winning skipper be removed from the commentary panel, it will reportedly cost him a sum of US $100,000. Clarke’s former Australian teammate Matthew Hayden is also in the commentary team and as per reports, he has been offered the same amount as the all-rounder.
Apart from incurring such a huge financial loss, the 41-year-old might also go on to lose other sponsorship deals in the wake of this controversy.
How did Michael Clarke find himself in troubled waters?
Clarke’s partner Jade had accused him of cheating with his ex-girlfriend Pip Edwards, a fashion designer by profession. The controversial incident was recorded by a bystander earlier this month when Clarke Karl Stefanovic were holidaying with their partners Jade and Jasmine Yasbrough.
During the argument, Clarke tried to defend himself and said that whatever claims are being made by Jade are untrue. However, things took an ugly turn with the exchange of words before Jade physically assaulted Clarke.
According to a statement made to The Daily Telegraph, Clarke has confessed his wrongdoing and has also admitted that he is gutted for his actions.
“I’m absolutely gutted I’ve put people I hold in the highest regard in this position,” he told the publication. “My actions in the lead-up to this altercation were nothing short of shameful and regrettable. “I am shattered that because of my actions I’ve drawn women of class and integrity, and my mates, into this situation.”
