'Bring in Ashish Nehra and make Hardik Pandya captain in T20Is' - Harbhajan Singh calls for big changes after India's T20 World Cup exit

India suffered a disappointing ten-wicket defeat in the T20 World Cup 2022 semi-final clash against England at the Adelaide Oval on Thursday (November 10). The shocking defeat has raised many questions regarding changes to the current squad and management. 

Captain Rohit Sharma is facing a lot of criticism for India's failure, inability to reach the finals, and for their disappointing performance in the Asia Cup 2022. Rohit's performances with the bat have also taken a big hit as he just scored 116 runs in six innings at a poor strike rate of 106.42 in the T20 World Cup 2022.

Many Indian fans were flooding Twitter with the hashtag 'Sack Rohit' after India's defeat and also criticized head coach Rahul Dravid. The former Indian captain, Dravid has also come under a lot of criticism for not giving chances to Yuzvendra Chahal in the tournament.

Ashish Nehra has got a great cricketing brain: Harbhajan Singh

Harbhajan Singh, Dravid's former teammate, praised the coach for having a great brain but suggested that India need someone who recently retired from T20I cricket, like Ashish Nehra.

“It’s not just the captain. If you can bring someone who has just retired from T20 cricket recently, someone who understands the format. You know, with all due respect to Rahul Dravid, he was my colleague and we played a lot of cricket together, he has a great brain."

“But I think if you don’t want to remove Dravid from T20I as a coach then help him with someone who has recently retired. Someone like Ashish Nehra who has got a great cricketing brain. Look what he has done there at Gujarat Titans. It will also encourage the young guys with what Ashish will bring into the team. It could also be anyone, who just retired,” Harbhajan told India Today.

Harbhajan also suggested a captaincy change for the T20I team with Hardik Pandya as a possible prospect. He termed the India all-rounder as the best player in the current team and stated that there is no other better choice. 

“For captaincy, Hardik Pandya is my choice. There is no better choice. He is the best player in the team and you need more people like him in the team,” Harbhajan added.
