Chloe Tryon pulls out, no skipper named for South Africa’s upcoming tour to Pakistan
"The core of the squad has remained together post the World Cup and we have a few additions to ensure that we address certain shortcomings in the squad," Clinton du Preez mentioned.
Ahead of their tour to Pakistan, Cricket South Africa has dropped Sune Luus as the skipper of the side. Notably, she was the interim captain for quite some time, but the board is now eager to finalise the position and hence, will be naming a new leader of the dressing room before the white-ball series begins on September 1.
On the other hand, batting all-rounder Chloe Tryon has pulled out from the upcoming series. She has requested a leave, which Cricket South Africa has granted. Annerie Dercksen will also miss the series as she is currently recovering from her finger injury. Other than that, 12 out of 15 names were part of South Africa’s T20 World Cup campaign and thus, they will be aiming to make a mark in the series.
Clinton du Preez, CSA's convenor of selectors for the women's team, stated that the idea behind the selection was to retain the majority part while giving opportunities to players like Mieke de Ridder, who can come in and cover the area of wicket-keeper.
“The core of the squad has remained together post the World Cup and we have a few additions to ensure that we address certain shortcomings in the squad. This is also an opportunity for players like Mieke de Ridder to come in and cover the area of wicket-keeper on the back of a great season provincially and also through the winter at the CSA National Academy.
“Nondumiso is also returning on the back of a good season after being out of the squad for a while and is now an option when going to the subcontinent, where the additional spinner adds balance to the squad, which is what we require,” Preez was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.
South Africa squad: Anneke Bosch, Tazmin Brits, Nadine de Klerk, Mieke de Ridder, Lara Goodall, Sinalo Jafta, Marizanne Kapp, Ayabonga Khaka, Masabata Klaas, Suné Luus, Nonkululeko Mlaba, Tumi Sekhukhune, Nondumiso Shangase, Delmi Tucker, Laura Wolvaardt.
