County Championship: Yorkshire signs Dan Moriarty, Worchestershire ropes in Navdeep Saini
Moriarty signed for four matches.
Young spinner Dan Moriarty has switched sides and signed a loan contract with Yorkshire after not getting enough opportunities in an already stacked Surrey team. Notably, the 24-year-old is regarded as one of the most promising talents in English cricket at the moment and thus, with the hope of getting more game time to prove himself, the cricketer decided to sign for Yorkshire.
Meanwhile, Surrey was completely dependent on their pacers in the ongoing season and for a spin, they backed part-timers in the form of Will Jacks and Cameron Steel over the specialists. Thus, Moriarty was desperate for a switch and is very likely to play in Yorkshire’s upcoming match against Gloucestershire, especially with Dom Bess not in form at the moment. Notably, after the new acquisition, Yorkshire director Darren Gough was delighted and called it a brilliant addition.
“With Yorkshire's focus shortly turning to Championship cricket again, alongside the busy Blast schedule, it was important to add another addition to our bowling resources,” Gough was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.
On the other hand, Surrey director of cricket Alec Stewart believes that Moriarty can still play a massive role for them after his loan deal ends.
“This is a really good opportunity for Dan to play a number of first-class games over the next month or so. Hopefully, he'll put in some really good performances which will prepare him well should he get selected in the Championship run-in during September,” Stewart mentioned.
India pacer Navdeep Saini is set to feature for Worcestershire County
Meanwhile, India pacer Navdeep Saini will be seen playing for Worcestershire in the ongoing season. However, the cricketer is not expected to play all the matches as he has been called up in the Indian Test team for the upcoming Test series against West Indies. However, he is expected to play against Derbyshire, before flying to the Caribbean shores.
Elsewhere, Mitchell Swepson will be playing for Glamorgan in the remaining matches. The Australia international is expected to make his debut on Sunday, June 25, against Sussex.
