'Don’t like watching the Proteas play too much' - Chloe Tryon expresses eagerness ahead of T20I series against India
"You always want to be playing, especially in the subcontinent," said Tryon.
South African women have been out down under by India Women as they were washed out in the ODI series and lost the one-off Test in Chennai. They will be hoping to turn their fortunes around as they enter the T20I series starting on July 5 in Chennai. One particular player, whom the Proteas missed highly is Chloe Tryon. Tryon, who was away from action for several months due to injury, will be coming back in the T20I series.
Tryon sustained a groin injury in the last season of the Women’s Big Bash League and had a back issue to go with it. Ahead of her return to the national side, Tryon expressed that she had a tough time seeing her team perform on television and missing out on action. She also added that the intent is to take it deep while batting especially coming in to bat at number four.

“I love watching cricket, but don’t like watching the Proteas play too much. It gets a bit stressful wishing I was there in the thick of it. You always want to be playing, especially in the subcontinent. When I started batting, I became this explosive hitter and I used to come in the 3rd or 4th over and put so much pressure on myself to score runs, eventually getting out most of the time. Now, we’re just kind of simplifying it and looking at it as 18 balls (at a time) and trying to stay there as long as I can,” said Tryon as quoted by Sportstar.
Idea is to be more consistent across departments: Tryon
The upcoming series holds much importance to the Proteas as they will be vying with the best in Bangladesh for the upcoming T20 World Cup trophy. It is worth noting that, South Africa have never won an ICC Trophy and the team is ranked fifth in T20I before entering the series against India. Tryon expressed that, ahead of the tournament all departments must start clicking.

“There were key moments in games sometimes where I thought we could step up a bit more while watching from home. We’ve played a lot of good cricket in patches. We’ve had good stages and then some not-so-good parts. Idea is to be more consistent across departments,” she added.
