'Don’t start the blame game' - Kevin Pietersen after Nasser Hussain's 'end of era' remark on England
"This England white ball team has given us many years of absolute joy and excitement. I’m seeing quite a bit of negativity and ‘end of era’ stuff," Pietersen wrote.
Legendary England captain Kevin Pietersen indirectly expressed his displeasure with his former teammate Nasser Hussain after the latter called the Jos Buttler-led side's 2023 ODI World Cup crash an "end of an era".
Hussain's comments came after England's humiliating eight-wicket defeat against Sri Lanka at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. It is worth mentioning that the defending champions have been below par in the 2023 World Cup, having won only one off their five games so far with their qualification chances nearly over.
Pietersen made a positive comment on England's white-ball team, stating they have been entertaining everyone for so many years. If someone feels it is the 'end of an era' they are embarrassed, according to the 43-year-old.
"This England white ball team has given us many years of absolute joy and excitement. I’m seeing quite a bit of negativity and ‘end of era’ stuff. If it is, that’s life. Don’t start the blame game. You’re embarrassing if you do!" Pietersen wrote on X.

Meanwhile, England suffered their fourth defeat and the third on the trot, when they faced Sri Lanka in their previous game. The defeat lessens the defending champions' chances to reach the semi-finals. The Jos Buttler-led side is currently ninth in the ten-team tournament, with a solitary win against Bangladesh.
Speaking about the clash against Sri Lanka, England tumbled for a below-par 156 runs in 33.2 overs after opting to bat first. Ben Stokes top-scored with 43 off 73. Later Pathum Nissanka and Sadeera Samarawickrama's unbeaten half-centuries powered Sri Lanka to chase down the target within 26 overs.
