In the first Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, India vanquished Australia by an innings and 132 runs at the Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) Stadium, Nagpur. With this colossal victory, India have taken a 1-0 lead, and are looking confident to win the series comfortably and reserve the spot for the World Test Championship (WTC) final.

On day three of the game, Ravindra Jadeja went back to the pavilion early after scoring crucial 70 runs. However, the hosts remained unfazed by the veteran’s dismissal as Axar Patel (84 runs) and Mohammed Shami (37 runs) continued the assault on the Aussie bowlers. At the score of 400, India lost their last wicket and Australia were left with a huge task in hand.

After the conclusion of the first innings, India were dominating the match with a lead of over 200 runs. To remain in the contest, Pat Cummins and his men had to deliver an extraordinary show against Indian bowlers in the second innings. However, that couldn’t happen as the Indian bowlers folded the Baggy Greens on a total of 91 runs on the board.

With this score, Australia registered their lowest Test total against India in India. Ravichandran Ashwin, who was expected to be dangerous against the visitors, played the role of wrecker-in-chief. Using his vast experience and incredible skills, the 36-year-old demolished the top order of Australia.

In his 12-over spell, the veteran bagged the scalps of Usman Khawaja, David Warner, Matthew Renshaw, Peter Handscomb, and Alex Carey. Besides him, Ravindra Jadeja also emerged as a threat who took a couple of wickets, of which one was dangerous Marnus Labuschagne.

However, Rohit Sharma and his men have amassed 111 points with the win percentage of 61.67. Talking about Australia, they stay top of the table with 136 points and a win percentage of 70.83. However, if the Aussies fail to notch up a victory or draw during this tour, Sri Lanka’s chances of making it to the final will open.
