‘He’s a freak’ - Former Australia all-rounder hails Virat Kohli after latter becomes leading run-getter in T20 World Cup history
Virat Kohli has registered three half-centuries in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 thus far.
Virat Kohli has been in the form of his life for India in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2022. Virat has been racking up runs upfront for the Men in Blue and it has helped the team immensely.
His latest knock against Bangladesh where he scored 64* off just 44 balls made him overtake former Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene's total run tally in the tournament. Former Australia all-rounder Shane Watson was awestruck by the record achieved by the India batter.
"Over 1000 runs in T20 World Cups at an average of over 80, I am not able to get my head around this. T20 cricket is a high-risk game, high-risk batting, and to think that he can do it at the biggest tournament, averaging so much and winning so many games for his country.
He is a freak, and those statistics are super freakish. It is incredible that you can bat in such a high-risk format and score consistently. It is ridiculous," Watson said while speaking on Star Sports.
Kohli and records are synonymous to one another and once again the right-hander broke yet another record on Wednesday, November 02 against Bangladesh. The player now holds a total tally of 1065 runs in 23 innings whereas Jayawardene scored 1016 runs in 31 outings.
India and South Africa favourites to qualify for semi-finals
Both Group 1 and Group 2 in the Super 12 stage have been pretty close in terms of results. Not a single team has confirmed its place in the final four from either of the groups.
However, in Group 2 India and South Africa are currently standing on top of the table and could very well be on their way to making it to the final four of the marquee event down under. The two semi-finals will be played in Adelaide and Sydney.
