I have dismissed Virat Kohli earlier, so it doesn't need to be the highlight of my career: Taijul Islam
Kohli was trapped lbw by Taijul in the first Test between Bangladesh and India in Chattogram.
Getting the prized wicket of batting megastar Virat Kohli is a dream for many bowlers, but that is not the case with Bangladesh left-arm spinner Taijul Islam who had trapped Kohli plumb in front of the wicket on Day 1 of the ongoing first Test at Chattogram.
Taijul, who was the pick of the Bangladesh bowlers at the end of the first day’s play with three scalps to his name, said that it was veteran batter Cheteshwar Pujara’s wicket that holds a special place in his heart. The spinner bowled Pujara when he was well set on 90 and deprived him of getting a well-deserved ton.
I felt that the ball which removed Cheteshwar Pujara turned quite sharply: Taijul Islam
"I have picked up the wicket of Virat (Kohli) earlier in my career so doesn't need to be the highlight of my career. I think the line and length was good and perhaps he missed on quite a few occasions but I felt that the ball (which removed Cheteshwar Pujara) turned quite sharply. He felt it will be straight but as it turned it hit the stump," Taijul said at the press conference after Stumps on Day 1.
Kohli attempted to counter Taijul’s delivery on the backfoot, but he completely misjudged it as the ball crashed into his pads. Kohli decided to get the decision reviewed after a brief discussion with Pujara but to no avail as the ball tracker showed three reds and he had to walk back for just one run against his name.
However, a determined Kohli was then seen toiling hard in the nets during the tea break as he was indulged in batting practice against left-arm spinner Saurabh Kumar to counter spin, which has been giving him a tough time in the last few years.
